Deb Abbs

Deb Abbs, who graduated from University of Illinois—Champaign/Urbana with a degree in journalism, is a freelance journalist, blogger and works for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.  Her writing work has been featured in Chicago Parent Magazine, Autism Asperger’s Digest and the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) E-Journal.  She was a freelance journalist with the Kane County Chronicle for three years and had numerous stories published there including some first person columns.  Working with InterVarsity for the past 20 years she has led many campus Bible studies, spoken at InterVarsity student events, and led student groups at Elgin Community College and College of DuPage. She also leads a monthly meeting at First Baptist Church of Geneva, her home church, to grow the special needs ministry there, called Masterpiece.

She lives in Illinois with her cop husband, Mike, and their two sons, Brandon 14, and Luke, 9.  Her journey in the special needs world began when Luke was diagnosed with autism at age 3.
