- What if we forgot the grudge we are tempted to hold against that doctor who gave us the wrong diagnosis?
- What if we forgave the school for all the ignorant decisions they made because they just didn't understand?
- What if we decided to forgive that friend or family member who was not there for us when we most needed them?

It is All Rubbish
"What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ. and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead."
~Philippians 3:8-11, NIV
Whatever we go through, whatever God uses in our lives, good and bad, we can say like Paul that it is rubbish in comparison to knowing Christ. Whatever we gain, attain, or accomplish in this life, it is garbage when compared to knowing Him. So we can clearly assert that knowing Him is the most important thing. Not that accomplishments are bad, they are just less than knowing Christ.
We become more like Him in His little by little as we look to Him and what He did for us on the cross. We must behold Him. We must believe by faith what He did for us. We cannot earn it. We cannot do enough good deeds to obtain salvation. It is by faith alone.
So how do we live? Paul tells us to "forget what is behind and strain toward what is ahead" (Philippians 3:13b). This is a great goal for the New Year.
What if we really lived as if Jesus died, redeemed, and forgave us of our sin and in response walked about in His love alone striving toward to reach the goal? What if?
What is this goal?
The goal is living as if we are citizens bound for Heaven. Heaven, forever in eternity with Christ. Can we make it our aim to walk that out this year? We cannot do this alone. We need each other. No matter what has happened or what happens, let's journey on looking forward to our goal. We can choose to walk this side by side as we support one another. That is why this community is here.
Pray: Lord, help us see that nothing we do here is even worth knowing you. Let us make it our aim to know you and the power that lives within us through you. Help us to believe by faith what you have done. Please grow and change us more like you this year. Help us be a support and friend to one another. In Jesus name. Amen.
