Speak to each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord. Always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
~ Ephesians 5:19-20, NCV ~

Yesterday, I gave thanks for my many blessings; my family, our home, friends, enough food, and a lifestyle most of the world doesn’t get to enjoy.

And I gave thanks for the invisible workings of God - His amazing gift of forgiveness, His joy that strengthens me in this journey, the glorious hope of heaven, love that binds our hearts together, and His love that will never fail.

As I was contemplating all of our Father’s good and perfect gifts, a song began to play through my mind. The song was Blessings by Laura Story.

God gave Laura the lyrics on one of the many sleepless nights when her husband was struggling to survive a brain tumor.

She wrote:

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise?

As I gave thanks for the obvious, I began to wonder if I could give thanks for my hidden blessings?

Can I be thankful for the trials in this life and believe they are God’s mercies in disguise?

Learning to live with the uncertainties of raising a child with special needs, the losses in life, broken relationships, battling depression and anxiety, an unexpected crisis, a derailment of my dreams and plans----

Can I see the hand of God in ALL of my life - and give thanks?

My brain may struggle with this but my soul shouts Yes!!!!

For He alone can take the pain, sorrows, and trials of this life and transform us by His glory. He can work in and through everything we experience because He is above all and is working ALL things together for our good - and His glory.

Pray: Thank you, Perfect and Good Heavenly Father! From Your hand and heart we receive Your blessings. Open our eyes to see the mercy and grace that are with us in our sorrows and pain - our questions and fatigue - our worries and our fears. You are truly good and You are with us in ALL things. We give you thanks today for our blessings in disguise.
