Getting Plugged In to My Power Source

Evie and I praising God at Joyful Noise Family Fest in MN
Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help,
as I lift up my hands
toward your Most Holy Place.
Psalm 28:2 NIV

What is with the people raising their hands?

I remember asking myself this question over and over again when I would attend church with my grandma and grandpa as a young child.

As an adult, I not only lift my hands when worshiping in church, but I do when we are at Christian music concerts, and I do even when I'm cruising in the car and the Spirit moves me.

I realized the other night, while worshiping at the Beautiful Offerings Tour with artists like Big Daddy Weave, Jason Gray, Citizen Way and Lauren Dagle, that my hands lifted in praise are EXACTLY the PROOF of "HOW I STAY SO POSITIVE?"
People say I inspire them, and they want to know how I find the energy to do the things I do...Just as a tall tree would work as a conductor of energy from a lightening bolt to the earth, my hand raised in praise of Jesus is my power source.  It IS how I continue to persevere in a world that is so broken.
A few weeks ago I even said to my husband, "I REALLY need a Christian concert right now."
Sunday morning service can get me so far...it gets me the energy and the renewed passion to carry out my duties during the week.  But, man, give me a two, three...even 8 HOUR concert?  I can take on the WORLD!
God washes over me, speaks to me, makes things clearer, makes this more peaceful when I'm plugged in and worshiping.

I love that my daughter has picked up on it and does it as well.

I recall several years back, when H1N1 was storming across the US; she and I were both sick and I knew she had an ear infection.  Our local clinic had no openings to have her seen with the doctor, so I had to drive 25 minutes from our little town in Wisconsin into Madison.  I was sick as well, achy, phlegmy, and feverish; but I knew that if either of us needed to be seen it was her.

I was crying in the car as I drove down the cold, gloomy highway.  But, suddenly the Newsboy's song He Reigns came on the radio and there sat Evie in the backseat with the biggest smile on her face, hands raised and signing, "Glory, glory, hallelujah, He reigns...".

God connects on such a beautifully overwhelming level when we raise our hands to Him.  He sees us reaching up, and He reaches right back down and takes our hands in loving mercy.

If you haven't tried a good dose of praise and worship to calm your fears, to ease your anxieties, to pacify your longing for peace; you really need to crank up God's tunes and raise your hands toward heaven~Call on Him to restore you, strengthen you, and help you take on this broken world.

Pray:  Heavenly Father, help me to let go of what holds me back and ties my hands down.  Let the Spirit move in me so that I may fully and completely surrender to You as my power source.  As I lift my hands to You, hear my cry, and restore my soul.  Amen.
