Do You Have a Favorite?

How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
~ Psalm 119:103, NIV ~

I hate chain letters!  With the advent of the internet, these irritating pieces of superstitious fiction just seem to flood our mailboxes all the more.  Many tantalize by stating, "...See what happens!"  Others make out-and-out false promises of prayers answered or fortunes granted.  The only good part of receiving them online is the instant gratification of the "Delete" key.

However, the other day I received something similar from a Christian author and fellow special needs parent.  This was worth taking note of because it was all about sharing a favorite Scripture verse with others.  In fact, when I first received it, I thought that my friend was directing it specifically to me because of recent worries I had expressed.  Much to my delight, it was instead another perfectly timed comfort from the Lord.  Of course, I had to return the blessing by sharing one of my favorite verses in turn.

This lead me to think of you, dear Reader.  Do you have a favorite Bible verse?  What encourages you?  God's Word is so rich!  There is nothing in life I can face -- joy, sorrow or boredom -- that Scripture does not address.  Even so, there are a few verses that feed me time and time again.  Allow me to share three of them with you:
  • "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2, NIV1984)   This passage always helps me to readjust my focus properly and press on, no matter what.
  • "Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them.  Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'”(Isaiah 30:20-21, NIV1984)  These verses always reassure me that I can trust in God's guidance.
  • " Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."  (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, NIV1984)  Appearing at the end of every e-mail I send, these verses praise God for the purpose He has given us in the trials we face.
How often we hear of the value in memorizing Scripture.  It blesses and transforms us with every new chapter of life we walk through.  Yet, how seldom do we actually write it on our hearts or express it to others in our lives.

So, I ask again, do you have a favorite verse or passage?  If so, why is that your favorite?  What a blessing it would be for you to share in the "Comments" section of this post!

PRAY:  Lord, I know that Your words are life, a lamp to my feet, and more valuable than the food I eat.  Grant me time alone with You to immerse myself in Your precious conversation with me.
