Who's In Charge Here?

"It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man." (Psalm 118:8 NIV)

How many times do we look for answers from the medical community only to be met with frustration? I can remember when our son was hospitalized with a life-threatening bleed and the doctors couldn’t find the cause of his troubles. I was wrought with anxiety.

As I shared my sorrows with my wise “spiritual mom”, Phyllis, she reminded me that the doctors aren’t ultimately in control. They don’t know it all or have the final say. (As my hubby likes to put it, "There's a reason they call it 'practicing medicine'!") But God knows what is going on and remains sovereign. Phyllis challenged me to let go of putting all my trust in the medical staff and what they had to say.

Now, we know the Lord has endowed the medical professions with the gifts of healing and wisdom. But we, especially in the special needs community, need to stop setting them up as a god. Fleeing to God as the source of our healing, strength, discernment and comfort is far better than relying SOLELY on human wisdom. And when we give God the trust He rightfully deserves, He will allow us to be first-hand witnesses to His miracles.
